LABORATÓRIO DE APLICAÇÕES FOTOVOLTAICAS E SEMICONDUTORES
RESEARCH
The main long term objective of the LAFS group is to find a way of producing low cost, high quality crystalline silicon sheets for solar cells suitable for industrial production. The group has been pursuing their own original ideas on how to approach this problem, the results previously obtained, namely
demonstration of the EZ RIBBON process, a feedstock-to-ribbon process from a molten zone: for more details see patent and EZ paper. Project being developed with funding from BP Solar and FCT.
demonstration of the SDS process, silicon deposition by CVD from silane at low T: for more details see this paper. Project funded by FCT PTDC/ENR/67616/2006 .
Besides this main activity in R&D the group is involved in processing and characterization of silicon and Graetzel solar cells.
